We are delighted to continue our long running association with the work of The Royal Guernsey Light Infantry Charitable Trust www.rgli.org and their efforts to preserve the history, memory, education and record the social impact to Guernsey of the regiment of World War One.

This week we have been able to add to their growing important historic collection by donating nearly £2,000 towards the purchase of some key pieces. These include several medals belonging to serving soldiers, a number of historic records, some rare artefacts and pieces of social memorabilia. One such item is a very rare high quality silver 'sweethearts' broach made by well known London manufacturing jeweller Collet & Anderson in London during 1918. A specific commission, made for a well known local family.

'Its really important that we help record the memory and history of the RGLI, and the social impact the First World War had in the Channel Islands. The depravations that so many families suffered in a pre-social security world are not often remembered'. sad Vincent Le Gallez, Associate Director.

'So many men, the bread winners of their families, were lost during that horrendous mass hand to hand fighting. This directly meant their children never grew up in our islands. Its our privilege that we are able to continue our support of this important work and the Trust's community aims and values'.
